Firewall New issue

Hi ! My 1st post here. (hope its in the right place) Ever since an Avast IS upgrade to: program version: 12.3.2280 build 12.3.3154.0 I keep getting a pop-up at the bottom right of my screen (I have windows 7 with google chrome)
Says: Firewall Mode changed
We detected the network
Seagate 78654 Family
and automatically changed the Firewall mode to
Private/Low Risk Zone

         change

Is there something I did wrong? Or can this be fixed? I"m a novice in this area. Thanks for your help. Deb

Hi Deb, welcome to the forum

I am definitely no Firewall expert, but I know recently some changes took place, and they are still fine tuning it :

I will try to contact Lukas, and ask him if he can explain this as well.

Greetz, Red.

thank you very much Rednose  I guess Private must be good? Don’t want my info to go public. But, /Low Risk Zone Low Risk Zone, I’m at a loss on that. regards…Deb

Private should be good, but I am puzzled about the recent changes as well :-\

Greetz, Red.

Public networks are ones you use when you are at the coffee shop or local bookstore or restaurant especially when you are the customer or consumer. A public logon key is usually posted for the user to access and use this network.

Private networks are normally found in your home or in a commercial business where their network is internal and is used to connect one office to another.

As Rednose says, best to await an answer from Lukas.

Exactly, me also Rednose

thx for the reply mchain
Theres no way for me to post the pop up I get each time I turn on the computer? Looked at photobucket, and, I can’t send a link here? well I’ll wait until the programmers fix it. Thank you for the replies…D. Oh wait, Attachments-Bingo, whats blacked out is the modem with a 12 digit number.

Thanks for the picture.

As a private network requires an unpublished wi-fi logon key to logon whereas the public network allows anyone using the public wi-fi key to logon, a private network default setting is more secure for your purposes.

It also implies that all devices on your private network are known to you and trusted; whereas a public network is open to anyone.

If you don’t wish to be notified of the change to a private network every time you start your system, suggest setting your private network to reflect what both attached images show.

thank you mchain! I have the same pic’s. under firewall policies and, Network Profiles. but I un-ticked both boxes in Network Profiles. Will reboot & see what happens. I don’t use wifi on this tower. I use an Ethernet-Cable.
Thanks for the pic’s… regards.

Please let us know how it works out for you.

So far, No more pop ups of the pic each time I started the computer…thank you very much. regards…Deb

You’re welcome. ;D

Just be careful to write down any customizations to avast so you can revert back to default settings in the future should you wish. Even though you’ve disabled these notifications for you, you can be sure that the same behavior is still occurring but now, at least, you are not being told about it every time you start your system.

You may however still be able to see this behavior being recorded if you check the firewall logs under ‘Rules’.
