Which version of avast! are you using?

the latest Internet security

let me check

Internet Security 5.0

I would suggest to install the last version (pre-release) of avast to see if the problem solves… http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=68927.0

But if someone have a better solution, go for it.

thank you !!
do I wait for support ticket?

do I wait for another opinion?

do I UNINSTALL first the old version?

or install the new one on top of old?

You can install the last version over the old one.
See if your problem is solved and give a feedback.

Hello and Welcome:

Download the latest version of Avast (5.1.874) for the product you need and save it to your HDD:

Free AV: http://files.avast.com/files/beta/5.0.874/setup_av_free.exe
Pro AV: http://files.avast.com/files/beta/5.0.874/setup_av_pro.exe
Internet Security: http://files.avast.com/files/beta/5.0.874/setup_ais.exe

Then download the Avast Clean up Utility http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and save it to your hard drive where you can access it easily.
Please go to Start/Control Panel/Add and Remove Programs and choose Avast and click Remove and then Uninstall. Once the uninstall process is completed, Reboot your computer and when up and running, Reboot again into ‘Safe Mode’ and find the (aswClear v5) download you saved to your hard drive and run the Clean up tool. Make sure you first choose the version you want to cleanup and then run the tool from the scroll down choices, your computer will automatically reboot. Once up and running in Normal Mode, Install the latest version of Avast you saved to your hard drive and all should be fine. Please remember you need to choose the version in the Clean up tool that you have had installed on your system. If you have had both v.4 and v.5 installed, then you need to follow the ‘safe mode’ process twice; once for each version separately.
NOTE: Please run CCLeaner after you Reboot and before Clean install of Avast
This is Free and Safe Hard Drive Cleaner> http://www.piriform.com/

If you have any problems please feel free to let us know.

SUCCESS!!!

thank you All!!

I need tutorial forum for how to use - example
do I search the web only in your sandbox or virtual modes each time??

if you could make one thing easier…
I will say the license thing is very confused
hard to find the actual code from the Download email
eventually thought to open with Notepad
when I re-installed it thought I was trial version still
even when setup used the code
I ended up inserting again but had to browse for the code in downloads

THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP
Karen from Toronto Ontario Canada

You are welcome.
What process did you finally decide upon that gave you success? And what version did you install?
Thank you

Schmidthouse,

I used your instructions
thank you they were very clear!

oh forgot

success install with this version
Internet Security: http://files.avast.com/files/beta/5.0.874/

the previous version I UNinstalled was
iavs5x

I think you should tell people that the link says 5.0
but the version is the 5.1

( I read the link to your posts concerning the name differences

Yes, there is that discrepancy about the version number. This is a prerelease and will be fixed when the release version comes out in a short time.
And I’m glad the instructions worked well for you as most users I have offered these directions to have commented back that they work very well.
Thank you
