Ok, here is the problem. I decided to try Sygate awhile ago but it kept freezing the computer, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled Zone Alarm. Now, Windows Security Centre keeps telling me that I have two firewalls on. When I turn off Zone Alarm it says Sygate is currently protecting the computer. Sygate, the program, has been uninstalled and I have made every attempt to remove areas of it from the registry.
Bob and I can’t figure it out, any suggestions? Thanks,
Surely looks as if Sygate isn’t uninstalled completely. (very likely registry keys) Give the registry cleaner on my website a try. (see the link in my signature)
Let us know if that solved the problem or not. (reboot after cleaning the registry)
Sygate uninstalls rather nicely depending upon which method you used: Sygate Uninstall or Add/Remove programs.
The former is the most complete.
However, a reboot is the best thing to do after an uninstall and certainly before installing Zone Alarm.
Use the Reg Clean prgram Eddy mentioned. All you need to do after installing it is to click on the left panel header name.
Look for any occurrence of Sygate and remove it.
Then, click on the right panel header name and do the same.
This should be all that is required. If things still do not work, let us know.
The Sygate Uninstall utility is part of the program when it is installed, however, sometimes, the program is removed, but NOT the folder.
So…go into the My Computer, Programs and look for Sygate folder. If its there, open up each folder and sub folder and look for a file called Uninstall. Clicking on this should run the uninstall utility again.
If this fails to solve the problem, then you more than likely will need to do this: (even though it sounds silly):
Uninstall Zone Alarm and reboot.
Attempt to install Sygate again but this time shut down all non essential programs except Systray and Explorer using the Shutdown Dialog menu (Hold Ctl. Alt and then the Delete key)
If Sygate installs, then you can try it, if not, THEN go into the Programs/Sygate folder and find Uninstall. Click it again and everything should come out. REBOOT.
Then go put Zone Alarm back in.
I know this sounds tedious, but something was not removed and Zone Alarm sees it, or thinks it sees it!
Either way, you need to go back to square one and start over.
