Firewall problems

Hi all,
I’m using windows xp home, after installing Avast pro the minute it goes to updating I loose internet connection and unable to open web browser. Everything works just fine with Avast free. I know its a firewall issue but how do I go about resolving this problem.

Did you install avast Pro over avast Free?

To answer your question, no I removed avast free and installed avast pro.

How did you remove Avast Free? Did you use the Avast Uninstall Utility Tool?

Did you have any other Antivirus or other security software currently or in the past on this machine?

What is your firewall (FW)?

same problem here, and i had no software installed before! Browser works only with internet protection off! What can i do?

So you also removed Avast Free and installed Pro version?
How did you remove Avast Free? Did you use the Avast Uninstall Utility Tool or do it another way?

Questions so that I can help you better:

  1. What is your OS, 32 or 64-bit?
  2. What version of Avast did you install? 5.0.677 is the current version.
  3. What other security software do you currently have or did you have in the past, including trial software on this machine including antivirus (AV), firewall (FW), and other security programs? If they were in the past, how did you remove them (the vendor’s uninstaller’s tool or another way)?
  4. How do you connect to the Internet? Broadband/cable, DSL, proxy, etc?
  5. Have you changed any of the default settings of Avast after installation?
