firewall settings

Hi - trying to figure out how to get my Internet Security firewall setting to default to “private”. Currently the default is “public” and for the past couple of weeks (either since a Windows 10 upgrade OR an Avast upgrade, that default public setting has hung up my Outlook mail (send/receive error). Manually switching it every day when I log on has become a nuisance, especially when I never had to do it before. Many thanks.

Update to the latest version (17.5.2303): https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=205786.0

I’m thinking a clean install of avast will tend fix more issues. Reason is, old files from more than one versions back are not overwritten properly and thus affecting how the current version runs. Updating through the gui should overwrite these old files, but that doesn’t always happen.

I’m of the belief that some, if not most, of the users reporting issues, are here because they upgraded instead of doing a clean install.

I’ve had much better luck always starting from scratch vs. upgrading through the gui for the last several years. So, recommended to do a clean install if upgrading to the latest version does not fix things.

Well, let’s put it this way, a clean reinstall never hurts.

Thanks - may do a clean reinstall as I am running the latest version.

OK, report back.
