Firewall

I have just installed Outpost Firewall 2009 , should I switch off Windows firewall ? I also have Avast (home edition ) Windows defender , Superantispyware (free edition ) Malwarebytes installed . I am running Vista (home premium) and SP2 . Just checked security centre and it does not list Outpost firewall , even though it is enabled ? Grateful for any advice .

I believe Outpost Firewall Pro will disable it on installation, as far as I’m aware that is what it did on mine.

In any case my XP firewall is off.

I’ve got the Outpost Firewall free which I think is the 2009 version. It should have turned off the Windows Firewall when it installed. If not make sure the Windows Firewall is turned off and re-boot. Then check security centre again and it should tell you that Outpost is your firewall.

I’m sorry but don’t you think you’ve gone a bit over the top with all that Spyware, surely one AV and one Spyware should be enough. This could be the problem.

A user can have as many demand scanners installed as he/she wants.
SAS runs at startup by default, but can be configured not to.

Having demand scanners installed (apart from those that run a service even when not open - A squared/AdAware, maybe others) only uses disk space, nothing more.

Thank you all for help and advice , much appreciated

P.s
Superantispyware and Malwarebytes only run on demand as Tarq57 suggested .

You’re welcome.

Reid…just curious why you removed Outpost??

I removed Outpost and installed PC TOOLS FIREWALL PLUS which I had used one time before and was quite happy with . I would be interested to know how you gained this info and whether any one can get in to my computer and gain that and any other details !!!

Reid…gained what info?? why you un-installed outpost?
you stated that with your very first post on this isssue. :o

I don’t know what you are reading , but in my first post I stated “I have just installed Outpost Firewall 2009 , should I switch off Windows firewall ?” It was only later that night that I uninstalled it and replaced it with PC TOOLS FIREWALL PLUS . I never came back on forum after this , so how did you find out this info ? I would be grateful for any other members to advise me on this matter , have I been hacked ?

you have not been hacked!! I just read it wrong apparently
no need to freak its all good

With only 22 posts , and new to the board ,you are not someone who I have faith in after this episode. Not like others i.e " DavidR " "Tech " and others who I trust and have given great advice and help over recent times and value their assistance .

Well post count isn’t everything, there are some who are very knowledgeable in other areas before they register at the forums and some in the forums with hundreds of posts most of which are related to their problems. So there is no way to tell or make assumptions.

In this case hayc59 thought you said you had uninstalled outpost, when at the time you hadn’t said that, just an unfortunate coincidence that subsequently you had…

Thanks David…Its all good…Paranoia will destroy ya ;D

Listen hayc59 , there is no need to try and be smart with your snide remarks and smiley ! It’s not paronoia , merely trying to protect your system and ensuring your security is adequate as we are told to do nowadays .All this was instigated by you , not I . A member of the family has many months of University work and other matters pertaining to profession/ business on this computer and this was my main concern .i.e could this be compromised by an outside source .

DavidR

I take your points mentioned . I took your name and Tech as an example , not wishing to involve both in this matter . Apologies to you both for any trouble caused . Thank you once again for advice .
