I have been checking the search function and all the different threads and am more confused than ever. ???
My main machine is discribed in my signature, but I have it networked to a Windows 98 450, with 256RAM. It is networked with one network cable. I have already installed Avast, Adaware, Spywareblaster, and Spybot and run all of them on the old machine. Which firewall will give me the least problems with this older machine and is sort of easy to run. I had some trouble with Zone Alarm on my XP machine when I tried to connect with the 98 machine but figured out the configuration so the connection wasn’t blocked. I have read that Zone Alarm and Windows 98 don’t necessarily work easily together. :
I have downloaded Kerio Personal Firewall Free Edition and Sygate Free also, but am afraid to install any of them for now. :-
I would appreciate any help.

Best firewall is a hardware firewall (or router with build in hardware firewall)
But if you want to use software, for most ‘home users’ Kerio and Avast is a good combination.
Thanks Eddy,
I only have dialup here and two machines networked, so a router didn’t seem necessary; although, I know a hardware firewall (router) is more secure. My husband doesn’t use the old machine much. He would rather me do all the searching for him. I noticed Kerio was quite a small Application in comparison to Sygate and Zone Alarm, and I always like that. Less to go wrong. I will try that on the 98 machine this morning. ;D ;D
