firewalls

I’m looking at buying Avast Pro but just want to make sure it’ll work with Outpost Pro…also does Avast look for rootkits?

thanks!

As for firewalls, use the search feature at the top of the page. You will get many hits on many different firewalls. I am sure Outpost is among them.

From memory, I think that David R uses Outpost 3.0 and Avast without any problems!

Cheers,

Thorny

how about rootkits anyone know if Avast looks for those?

No problems with Outpost Pro, if you don’t have Standard Shield on High (leave on the default Normal) as Outpost is a file access hog on boot. I would also recommend you don’t use the anti-spyware plug-in as that scan mega files (about 1000) on boot, not to mention if you have AdAware (what the plug-in is based on) or other anti-spyware you are covered.

Rootkits are for most AVs very much work in progress and avast is no different in that respect. Exercising safe hex does provide a degree of protection and there also other rootkit detection tools out there in the meantime.

thanks for the tip on Outpost, seems your system & mine are some what a like except I don’t over clock
I’ll give Avast a test to see how it does…thanks again

Well you can’t go far wrong by downloading the avast Pro trial version that gives you 60 days unrestricted use to test it fully.

Welcome to the forums.

I also use Outpost and Avast Pro without problems.
