After a Microsoft update my Avast gave me the above message but when I click on the “Fix It” button on the interface it does nothing. I did a system restore and uninstalled and reinstalled again and it still didnt work. I cannot do scans and my Avast software is doing nothing.
Ok I ran the removal tool and it fixed the problem. Once I reboot the system, my computer wouldnt restart. I had to run it in safe mode then do a system restore without the avast installed on my computer.
Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. This is important. Anyway, boot after that.
Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you’ve run it.
Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro.
For sure, System Restore won’t bring stability to your computer.
Use the specialized tools to uninstall both Norton and avast. Removing their leftovers.
The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2003-2010 products from your computer.
(If possible) Remove Symantec products through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
I did the Norton uninstall before I reinstalled Avast. I did the system resore first, then the norton removal and still it runs slow. I’ll try to re-install avast again and then repair it.
I think yr system is now running slow because of the System Restore. You say you did a System restore back to when you first got yr netbook. How long ago was that? Did you bring your system back up to date, and tidy up yr programs and features?
+1
It’s on an inconsistent state.
I suggest you follow both Norton and avast uninstall routines, booting each time, use the specialized tools to remove which remains.
Yr computer is crawling because of everything you did, and everything you did or did not do ‘to fix that’.
I gather that yr netbook one week old came with Norton bundled. This is a standard practice. The Norton is a trial run and you have to pay when the trial run is over. The trial run is never less than three months.
Do you have a Restore to factory settings?
Or did you use Windows System Restore? (sorry i have not read back through posts in this thread)
The advice Tech gave you is good. You are likely to have remnants from Norton in yr system upsetting things, and now you have a sub-standard install of avast as well. makes things a bit messy.
“Avast off or Inconsistent State” is symptom indicating just that. “Fix now” resets or corrects to default.
This is not often a big deal.
I have done everything suggested again and again and still my system is running very slow.
I set it back to the factory settings, ran the Norton removal tool reboot. Then I Installed Avast. It was an older version and I updated. Boot. I tried to do a repair from the CP but it wouldnt allow me too. I have tried to do this thing at least 15 times and I still get the same result.
The crazy thing is my netbook was doing great and then all of a sudden it wouldnt let me fix the “inconsistent state” problem and after I got that problem fixed, the computer started to run slow.
I am just going to do one final uninstall and be done since nothing I am doing seems to work Right now its taking about 1 minute for my font to appear as I type.
I dont understand why avast works perfectly on my desktop but not on my netbook.
