The last three definition updates are listed as “This VPS update contains only fixes to existing definitions or removal of false alarms”. Is this really true?
yes…it is Normal
sometimes a clean file(s) is detected as malware…then they release a new VPS where detection for that file(s) is fixed
why do you think this is strange?
I don’t think it’s strange to have a fix update, just a bit unusual to have three such updates in a row with apparently no new definitions.
Three in a row is definitely an anomaly. However, the streaming updates have been quite active during this same period. Maybe Avast is dealing with evolving threats that is constantly morphing.
Now four in a row … I suspect it’s the ‘virus update history’ page that needs fixing, not the definitions!
why…whats wrong with it?
Well I’m only guessing … but either the last four definition updates have been fixes only with no new defs (which I’d have thought is unlikely), or they’re being incorrectly reported on the virus update history screen.
but either the last four definition updates have been fixes only with no new defs (which I'd have thought is unlikely)have you recived streaming updates?
or they're being incorrectly reported on the virus update history screen.the thing that sometimes is "wrong" with the website is that it is behind in reporting the release...... reason.....releasing updates is more important then updating the website
anyway, is your avast giving any errors?..no then why worry
I wouldn’t read too much into the Virus Update History page. Perhaps there are no new named virii to enter ( Avast does use a large number of generic signatures that catch multiple variations of particular virus families. As long as the streaming updates and later the VPS updates keep coming, be assured that Avast staff is doing it’s part to protect it’s users.

Rats…I was going to ask that.
@ OP If you have been receiving streaming updates I wouldn’t worry at all. avast has your back.
Here is one fix http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=113715.0
I’m not worried, nor am I looking for any argument about what’s going on. I just thought it possible that the virus update screen might not be updating correctly (as happened recently with the dates) and was simply seeking to highlight that possibility.
The last 3 definations may well be fixes…but they also add 100 and 1000 of generic malware-gen,dropper-gen,trojan-gen and many more generic detections with them…that you wouldnt see with the virus update history…
if it was only fixing then how the 3 undetected samples i had were detected by these new definations
streaming updates
Hello,
there are printed only new names of detections, but if the detection is only modified the name is not printed again. So new detections are added but there were no new names.
