Flagging Steam as Malware

Hello, all. Google search showed that this is not a new occurrence, as it happened on/around Feb 5th. It didn’t happen to me then, but it did just happen to me right now. I wasn’t even running Steam, or trying to, and Avast popped up telling me it blocked steamerrorreporter.exe and steamservice.exe. I had to turn off my file system shield to get around this.

Hi, I just ran a quick scan, too and it flagged 2 steamservice.exes, one in program files\common files\steam, one in steam\bin along with steamerrorreporter.exe in programfiles\steam.

So these are false positives? I mean obviously they’re legit steam files, I don’t know much about this though as far as whether they could get infected or something.

You can report possible FPs here: http://www.avast.com/contact-form.php?loadStyles

I got this too and my VPS is 120322-1. (I reported this as FP thrugh avast program). Please fix this!

Hello,
I found some files with this names in FP submits, but no one is detected with current VPS (120323-0).

Reported the file through Avast as a FP, the same thing happened last month too.

Still reported as malware, even with newest VPS update 120323-0 :frowning:

Just updated to 120323-0. Re-scanned the items it threw in my virus chest and it’s no longer detecting steamerrorreporter.exe, but it does still claim that steamservice.exe is malware.

Hello,
FP should be fixed in current stream update (pkg1203230000000002.bin).

I added Steam Folder (F:\Steam*) to the exclusion list in files system shield settings, now I can at least launch Steam and use it normally.
