Flashing ROMs after installing Avast

I can’t seem to find clear answers to the questions below.

Once I have installed Avast! Mobile Security with root access/firewall capabilities, is there anything special I need to do before flashing a new version of the same ROM? (Only cache and dalvik cache wiped.)

When installing another ROM altogether, if I wipe completely (cache, dalvik, system) this obviously removes everything including the Avast! app. If I restore a Titanium Backup of Avast!, will I need to go through the setup again in order to provide root access or will the settings initiate on their own via the restoration of app+data?

Or, as root is persistent between flashes/wipes on my phone, will Avast! root access remain persistent across flashes/wipes as well only needing the app to be restored/downloaded?

Any help is appreciated.

hello a new flash of the rom will wipe anti theft, unfortunately. there is a way in cyanogenmod to keep certain apps during a flash process-

There is file /system/etc/custom_backup_list.txt for Cyanogenmod.

Add:
app/com.avast.android.antitheft.apk
etc/com.avast.android.antitheft.backup.enc (if you saved settings)

I tried it and works fine. Keep it there during flashing new Nightly build. Maybe Avast developers can check if current rom is Cyanogenmod and then add that lines for you in next version of their SW. I already use another App which do it too.

Of course this apply only to Cyanogenmod, I’m not sure about other ROMs.

I was on the previous version of Avast, which was called Theft Aware. If you install it with Admin priviliedges, and root, it would not disappear if flashing, supposedly.

I just did a flash, although the one thing I did not do was ‘wipe system’. I did wipe cache, wipe dalvik, and hard reset. In that case, it did remain.

Well, nothing will survive flash of ROM memory (FTF firmware etc.), if you mean “flash” by some recovery manager or clockwork loader, there are chances for surviving it.

hi can you tell me which app does it as well?

Add:
app/com.avast.android.antitheft.apk
etc/com.avast.android.antitheft.backup.enc (if you saved settings)

What does it mean to “add” the above?

the next update will contain a tool to do this.

Thanks for the update, reinhardholzner

For example GetRIL App for LG Phones to keep RIL for your baseband. Sorry for my late reply as I’m not checking this forum often.

Edit:
Market Link: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.sibbor.getril

From description:
“There’s also the ability to keep the current RIL after a ROM flash. This feature only work on CyanogenMod based ROMs.”

Works great!
Anyway, thanks for your response, cannot wait for next version.

its already out.
