I copied some data from a USB drive to a folder on my computer. After that, the folder on my computer (where i copied data) changed to recycle bin. I cannot access the contents of this folder. when I click on the folder, it opens recycle-bin. Please note, not only the folder icon is changed, the folder is acting like a recycle-bin.
I don’t know if there is any virus on my computer. I scanned that folder again but avast didn’t detect any virus in it. Please consider to reply and let me know if my computer is infected by a virus. Thank u.
What type of scan did you do with Avast and is your Virus Chest empty? I’m assuming you are using Avast 5.0.677 and have a 64-bit machine?
Please do the following (you may want to print this):
Check your computer for malware with Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (MBAM).
· Download freehttp://www.malwarebytes.org/ (the blue button) for an on-demand scanner.
· Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
· After install, click update so you have latest database before scanning.
· Under Settings:
o General: Automatically Save File After Scan Completes is checked off
o Scanner Settings: Check all boxes
o Updater: Download and install update if available is checked off
· Once the program has loaded, select “Perform FULL Scan”, then click Scan.
· The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
· When the disinfection scan is complete, a log will appear in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note).
· Click the “remove selected” button to quarantine anything found. You will find the infection details under the Quarantine tab.
· The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
· Copy & Paste or attach the entire report in your next reply.
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts – Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process; If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.
CCleanerhttp://www.piriform.com/ccleaner, freeware system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool. There is a Portable version available as well at http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds. It removes unused files (cache, temporary Internet files, etc.) from your system, allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. Additionally it contains a fully featured registry cleaner. As you may know, USB flash drives have the ability to carry (autorun.inf) malware and can infect your machine. Please download and install Panda USB Vaccine for USB devices http://research.pandasecurity.com/panda-usb-and-autorun-vaccine/. It can also be run on any drive on your machine for removable devices. You will be given the option to “vaccinate” your machine - click to vaccinate your machine, which means to disable autoruns from infecting your machine again or in your case from malware spreading; you can enable it again (although I wouldn’t). Plus you can “vaccinate” any USB/flash or removable device so that it cannot infect your machine.
How to format or cleanse your USB / flash drive: Right click from Windows Explorer and do a full format to cleanse your USB flash drive – do this AFTER we complete your hard drive malware removal.
Check the information on the first post of this thread under Virus/Worms for you to check your machine for malware: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0. Follow the directions for obtaining the OTL logs. Post the two (2) OTL log as an attachment (Additional Options > Attach > Browse (the logs will be on your desktop > Post).
I will then review your logs and if needed refer you to our Certified Malware Expert.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you.
Before getting a reply from u, i deleted the infected folder(recyclebin). Then again i scanned my computer with avast (full system scan). Avast found nothing. Then i scanned my computer with malwarebytes(free version), it also did not find anything. Sorry,I forgot to make settings to save scan log.
I think my system is clean after deleting that folder(recyclebin).
I will try other softwares that u have mentioned in this post.
Can you please suggest me some other alternatives to malwarebytes?
Thanks again.
Please do. If you used a USB drive that was infected with the autorun.inf malware, you will need to follow the steps I have given you. Some of the scans may come up fine, but you will still need to vaccinate your machine and follow the steps in the order I listed them.
Also, do you have a 32 or 64-bit machine? If 32-bit, after all the cleaning, run an Avast boot-time scan as well.
Do you have something to share?? other alternatives if you don’t like MBAM? we are recommended product according to our experience that two is not conflict and very good product
the recycle bin folder it is not the threats but the file inside that folder. there are some virus that use that folder as disguise put virus inside and the anti virus cannot detect it because window identify it as deleted item
create restore point in the system volume information. that’s before ;D
but today it is detected and removed the inside files. as you can see that folder is empty if anti virus scan that folder.
