For a week or so, the firewall asks everytime if icarus.exe can connect even an allowed rule is set

I have never used a 3rd party firewall for over 10 years when the company stopped support on a ‘lifetime license’. Since then I have used the Windows Firewall and the Avast firewall when it was added to the Antivirus range. It is only recently, when Avast version 24.10.xxxx or 24.11.xxxx was released that this happened.

As I said:

For some firewall you can use wildcards in the firewall exclusions.

I don’t know if that is the case with Simplewall, having never used it.

Or you could opt to use the Avast Firewall Component until this is resolved and switch back.

OK, this morning I decided to uninstall Avast.
Icarus.exe really unnerved me—finally peace.
It was nice to use Avast all these years but patient.
Thanks anyway.

Is it just me, I am not seeing the image in that post, just the word “image”. Attemots to open image in another tab gives a 404 error.

No, ‘NON’ reported problems with images in another topic.

I was also getting the problem/error when trying to attach an image. However acknowledging and closing the Warning and Reply window, it had been uploaded and I could see it.

No idea what was done on the period of forum maintenance, but it appears to had some unforeseen consequences. The other was no Translate Icon in foreign language posts. Also Internal Server error when posting, but the post was made.

Avast really f*ked up this time with icarus.exe
It keeps replicating itself like a virus and I have not found a solution to allow it through comodo.
Not only that, icarus.exe keeps preventing Windows from entering the Sleep mode, or wakes it up from sleep mode.

Ba-bye Avast

I’ve tried to substitute the variable part of the icarus.exe path with a wildcard but that did not work. I’m not going to discontinue the use of Comodo, but I will get rid of Avast because Windows Defender is now rated better than Avast.

@NON @rocksteady @DavidR @Dinobot2 @Rundvleeskroket @Playta

Maybe it helps a lil.

Well if the Language Translator tool on the Avast Forum was still working, It might help :frowning:

EDIT: I assume @netbusfan may be referring to this, which includes English:

This was probably the most useful element (icon) in the Original Forum update and helps literally everyone.

I mentioned this after the latest incarnation/maintenance update of the forum. Looks like the baby was thrown out with the bath water.

I have used used a browser app in Firefox ‘Im Translator’ for a long time, not sure if this is available for other browsers, but bringing the integrated translation icon and function would be better.

Sadly it doesn’t really. It’s more of a recap. All things mentioned there have all been suggested. All are dependent on Avast making changes to the way their AV operates, or require users to open potential security holes in their firewalls. So I don’t see that as a realistic option either. A proper firewall will not only check for a change of path, but also for a change of hash. A new version of icarus.exe in the same location will still trigger an alert. The way icarus.exe currently works, it gets renewed every update.

Fed up with this icarus.exe… 115 entry in my firewall during last month. Ask me 3 or 4 times folowing, 3 or 4 times a day. Crazy ! Uninstall Avast definitely?

I am here again, because its SO annoying, I am really fed up to click away those notifications multiple times a day. I was fine with Avast for many years, but I will definitely leave if there is no solution.

I dont know if there is any official Avast reply in these 131 comments, but if so, it would be great to pin it to the top. A reply, a solution, at least to know that they are aware and working on it. Actually its been so long already, that I think they ARE aware but dont care.

Which leads me even further to some other software. Going to check that now.

I have been dealing with this Icarus issue for a few months now and following every thread on the matter. It is a very simple problem with a simple solution: just make it stop creating random folders! This didn’t happen before, so I doubt it is required for the program to function. Anyway, I have used Avast for many years now, and I can’t really complain because I use the free version. However, since apparently there is no interest from the developers in solving this, I’ve had enough. I am moving on to another AV.

I even created a topic saying that every time I turn on the computer an avast install message appears, some said it was ICARUS installing something.
But the problem is that I disable everything so it doesn’t update automatically.
This problem is very bad.

I am thinking of doing the same thing. Have you found another good free anti-virus? Or even a paid version that’s worth it?

for me the problem seems to be fixed.
I have not seen any popup from my firewall for few days.
Can you confirm?

Hello,
since Avast has no solution and the problem does not seem to occur in the paid version, I assume that the nuisance by Icarus was created specifically for free users to force them to purchase the paid version.
I am now being harassed by Icarus more than ten times a day.
The constant pop-ups that something has supposedly been found on the system are also getting more and more frequent and are keeping you from working.
I wonder whether Avast will take possession of the system at some point and demand a fee for releasing it.
Best regards

Do you have any evidence of that? I’m using paid version of Avast and I have icarus on board. On the other hand my free avast doesn’t have icarus. Paid one is on beta channel though.

The problem still exists with the paid version.
It has not changed.
In the meantime, I have left a corresponding review on “trustpilot”.
Negative reviews sometimes work wonders.

It makes no difference where the Icarus is pissed off. I have used both free and paid versions. It’s just the constant change of directory/file name that keeps the firewall “alive”…
