Turn on the siren Polonus ;D ;D ;D

Hopefully polonus isn’t sitting in the back of that car… ;D ;D

Where he belongs!! ;D  :o kidding D. kidding

in case you need this polonus ;D

Hi malware fighters,

Thanks for all the wishful thinking. Well I tell it even better. Did you know that actually I had my first computer, an Atari with the full DOS, through an acquaintance of the local police department? So there is where part of my skills come from. So drhayden1’s remarks weren’t that far fetched, I didn’t know that he had this clairvoyant streak to him. Why others wish me in the back of a patrol car is beyond me for the moment, but I like to hear that?

polonus

So,Polonus, you have a car? A Policecar! Then i must carefully writing.
No, i did searh to McAfeeSiteAdvisor, and only you have opened this item.
So there we are!
Its a McAfee Product and its Free!! But its not for nothing free.
I use this programm, and unstall this becours i saw in to the Registry,
allready Keys for placing Virus and Firewall installation. And thats not all,
i tippit in the green or gray or red McAfeeSiteAdviser, and what are you see?
The full programs of McAfee. In other words this is a sales product, and
have a strange feeling about it. Its use every PC where it is install and working,
I think its a SPY programm, and offer everyone McAfee programms to buy.
What do you Polonus think about that?
And greethings from the cheesehead.Cactusjack.

Hi Cactusjack,
McAfee SiteAdvisor is a browser aide.
It helps you avoid possible harmful sites even if I don’t agree with all of
their choices. It’s still a good tool to have.
I personally don’t see where or how you consider it a “SPY programm” ???

Becourse Its placed things on me computer, and i did remove that.
But i looking in me Firewall and there whas a call from me PC to McAfee.
And o yes i have not good looking, and that makes contact whit his Boss.
So i call this SPY for the McAfee Boss.
And that is the reasen that i write about this.
Greethings for Polonus. CactusJack. (cheesehead)

Hi Cactusjack,

Good you know what a “kaaskop” (cheesehead) is. Actually it is a wooden casket to make cheese, that was used by the farmers in Holland as a sort of helmet.
Now the only thing that I do not like about McAfeeSiteAdvisor that it is turning a good program they bought up for commercialization (every 30 days they ask you to buy the Pro Version for $ 30). If you search with www.scandoo.com you get more or less the same results for your searches with Google, Yahoo, MSN.
The tracking element is everywhere and the data of everything you do on a computer are stored anyway. Google even stores all you have deleted, your e-mails. In Italy your data are stored for 8 consequent years. And these data you have so aptly removed from your computer and deleted are stored elsewhere, and can eventually be used against you. This is Big Brother hand in hand with Big Corporations for you. They only things that will help you here is Knowledge, Information, Intellect. That is why we are here on this forum.
As you and I have nothing to hide, we need not fear. But making these processes as visible as can be, is very important. So I have leak monitor, special javascript scanners, Firebug, and the oyoy add-on in Firefox.

polonus

That’s a bit disconcerning, isn’t it? :o

I was going to suggest Scandoo but Polonus has already done it.

Since SiteAdvisor has been mentioned, I thought I would include the text of an email I recieved this past week … apparently from McAfee:

Dear charleyO:

We are writing today to thank you. Your thoughtful and insightful comments on our site report pages over the past months have been an incredibly valuable addition to SiteAdvisor’s automated testing.

You represent one of our top 100 reviewers (out of more than 30,000!) – based on both the number of comments you’ve offered, and your reviewer reputation score based on those comments.

In the coming months, we plan to do more to communicate with reviewers, to help reviewers communicate with each other, and to make sure you can reach us if and when you want to.

As a first step –- and in thanks for all your contributions so far – , we’d like to offer you a complimentary version of SiteAdvisor Plus, which we just launched. SiteAdvisor Plus offers new features including:

  • Password controlled “Protected Mode” to actively shield your PC against dangerous sites, no matter who uses your computer

  • “Link checking” which adds safety ratings to e-mail and IM

  • Real-time phishing protection

We are currently working to finalize a “permanently free”, “no-strings-attached” version of SiteAdvisor Plus for our top reviewers. For now, we invite you to download a free trial from download.com. No registration is required:

http://www.download.com/McAfee-SiteAdvisor-Plus/3000-2144_4-10601556.html

The Plus features in the trial version will remain active until 12/31/06, then revert back to free SiteAdvisor. But we’ll be in touch before then to let you know when the special ‘top reviewer’ version of SiteAdvisor Plus is ready.

We also welcome your input or suggestions about SiteAdvisor and SiteAdvisor Plus, including the features and improvements you’d most like to see.

Again, our sincere appreciation for being such an involved SiteAdvisor reviewer. We appreciate both your product feedback and your valuable ongoing additions to our site report pages.

Sincerely,
Jonathan Cohen, on behalf of The McAfee SiteAdvisor Team

I do not think I ever did more than 30 or 40 reviews (if that many) for SiteAdvisor before MCAfee bought it and none since then. I am in the top 100 reviewers? Well, I guess there are many who only did 5 or less reviews … if all the above is true. I will not be downloading nor using SiteAdvisor.

Anyway, for me Scandoo works easier and quicker. Just my 2 cents worth.

PS - I left the link active since it is to download.com

CharleyO, How can something that requires an actual input be faster than a program like SiteAdvisor which requires no input on your part since it works in the background?

Hi bob3160,

Scandoo scans in real time. What is frustrating at the moment is that McAfeeSiteAdvisor when you try to look for the particular site report it opens up to an advert page, when you click nothank you for the actual site results page, this does not open up!!!. So actually for reference you have the MacAfeeSiteAdvisor’s summary on mouse-over, but when you have NoScript installed on a search page, you are left with the traffic lights and nothing more.
With scandoo you can tweak what you line to be alerted for, with McAfeeSiteAdvisor you cannot, and the free version more or less was closed up.
Bad what MacAfee did to actually a nice free initiative. But there are more examples where initial good ideas were run into the ground by commercialization.

polonus

Since I use IE7, I don’t have your problems.
As far as the Adv. message:

* This page will only be shown once per 30 day period unless you have cookies disabled.
Although not nice, I can live with once per month. :)
