Forum account problems (email address issue)

I ran into a problem trying to create an account for this forum because I did not receive a confirmation email at the email address I wanted to use for my account…

I have my own domain name and email addresses associated with that. These emails redirect to an actual mailbox and email address with my current internet service provider. I do this so I can change ISPs if I ever need to while keeping the domain email addresses (that won’t change as long as I keep the domain). However, like some other businesses I’ve had association with recently, Avast apparently will not allow an account under an email address that redirects to another email address or is not attached to a physical email box. I understand this is a policy choice by Avast and is very annoying. The only thing I can think would warrant this is some kind of security reason but I don’t know what that might be - especially as I’m confident that I could probably create an avast account with a gmail or hotmail email account and there’s absolutely no security around creating or owning one of those (and gmail and hotmail don’t seem to care much about people using their accounts for all kinds of online fraud and scamming if my experience is anything to go by).

Please reconsider this policy. In this day and age, I should be able to have a setup like this without problem.

Last but not least, please don’t take this to mean I’m generally unhappy with Avast. By and large, I think your product is excellent.

Cheers
Glenn

If you used a legitimate email address, you would have received a reply from Avast.
Is it possible that you mistyped the address ??? It happens all too often.

The email address was correct as I tried several times to have the account verification email resent and I checked the address when I did that. No email received. I was forced to use a different email that does not redirect.

As mentioned, it’s not the first time I’ve had this problem - I get emails to the redirecting address from most people and businesses successfully, suggesting it is a policy setting at the Avast end, not mine. I have confirmed with others businesses that can no longer send to the redirected address that it is a global policy (security) choice by them to disallow this type of email redirection (I believe it is related to the fact that the ‘sent from’ address - which is my current ISP physical email box - does not match the ‘reply to’ address).

I don’t know why you find this so odd, as you already stated other businesses also don’t accept your email redirections for security reasons…I guess Avast also see it in the same light.

I’ve no issue using an Outlook account and their security is provided by Trendmicro I believe, I’ve also not seen an incident such as yours before here on the Avast forum so I’m fairly sure that your unusual email setup is the reason for your problem.
