Over the past week or so I’ve had a couple of perfectly good posts just thrown away by the forum after having hit the [Post] button.
When it happens, I’m returned to the list of threads, vs. it showing me the post in the thread. And the text doesn’t come back if I use the Back button, so it’s basically lost.
I’m using IE11 on Win 8.1 with very few Add-ons. It’s a solid, updated, and well-managed setup (in other words, other than my choice to use IE11 there’s nothing wrong with my browser). FWIW, I’m only using Avast’s Web Shield, none of the other Tools that affect the browser.
A fair number of forum editors seem to have at least some trouble with IE11, I presume because Microsoft made IE11 incompatible. I don’t really have any plan to switch to another browser as I like the security model in IE11. In other words, I’m not looking for advice on how to work around this problem - I’m just pointing out to the Avast forum managers that as of very recently the forum occasionally ignores posts.
One other minor nit: Double-clicking a word doesn’t select the entire word, which is more or less standard behavior system-wide. Again this is probably an IE11 at odds with the editor script type of thing.
Para-Noid and I reported this behaviour a while back in ECC. I has not happened to me recently but then again I do not post as many daily as Assyn or Bob do. When that was happening, I also started to copy the text before posting. It seems a good idea to start doing it again just in case.
I normally use the Quick Reply window to reply/respond if a quote isn’t required.
I usually preview my post before posting to ensure any bbcode is displaying correctly or add an attachment.
I had this issue once today when previewing the post I ended up with a blank window. Using the back key key didn’t get it back, neither did the undo/ctrl+z options.
I used to have a neat firefox add-on that saved text field content but that no longer works with later versions of firefox.
