Forum Speed - slow down

Is anyone experiencing a slow down in page loading, posting, etc. This has been happening intermittently over the last two days or so.

I’m seeing a noticeable slow down with some pages taking minutes to load if at all (timeout connection reset) and on occasion I’m getting error pages, the database can’t be accessed, or words to that effect, etc.

Dial-up is slow normally but at times I could write it quicker than it is loading.

Other forums (outpost) and other sites are loading at what would appear to be normal speed with firefox as default browser.

Could this be associated with the server load for the program updates ?

Today, no. Yesterday, maybe. It’s not definitively here, cross away the Atlantic sea ::slight_smile:

I wouldn’t expect that… Are forums in the same ‘server’ route of the program/virus database updates? I don’t think so…

I posted the Topic after suffering this slow down again today just to see if anyone else was effected and sod’s law after posting it is back to almost normal again. Lets see if it lasts.

I can’t check agnitum.com on my whois checker at the moment it doesn’t seem to be bringing up any details, I think the company is in Cyprus, but the servers could be located anywhere. But I browse sites that are in the USA.

Earlier today it seemed to just die for a minute or so. Very noticeable even on dsl.

Even more so on dial-up which is slow at the ‘best’ of times ;D

Yep, seemed a bit slow for a while there.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to visit the forum much lately. But, for right now, the forum pages seem to be loading very well for me on dial-up.

Yes, currently no slowdown, but I have had periods over the last few days where it was very noticeable. Perhaps its a way of saying I’m spending too much time here ;D

Same here David.
It seems to be most prevelent in the morning (-7 GMT)

Yes, I can confirm that the forum speed sometimes is slow, but no always :-\

It has been the same here, also. It is not unusual for some variability here, for which I usually blame AOL. But it has been intermittently much worse the last few days.

About 3-3:15 am my time (-4 hours from forum time) I couldn’t get on the forums at all, I kept getting the timeout connection reset.

Yes I get lots of spinning wheels, the firefox, throbber indicating page loading. I usually check the ‘show unread posts since last visit’ and open them in new tabs and get the spining wheels for ages.

If you disable WebShield? What do you get?
Is there any program using the CPU? Does Firefox use all resources at that time?

Sometimes it happens to me too…

I never tried because other forums and other sites are loading normally when the avast forum is slow that is how I confirm it is localised to the forum.

Hi David,

There is a special extension that minimalizes forum load, for instance it filters out all avatars etc. You could put the thing to the test trying nuke anything enhanced. This is a small Firefox (Flock) extension where you can take parts of the page that loads out to see what parts are slow. The script.js on the forum page could be slowing freeing mem (timely release of elements), or it could well be the swap options on the third embedded script.
The only time I experienced some hick-ups was for the image-host to slow-load. Could be the hosting partner also (ThePlanet.com Internet Services (270 pages). I’d say just some clutter, the mysterious ways of the Net, not a load we can do actually, my good friend,

polonus

I’d rather not try that, hate bland sites and often something like this strips out something you might want to see. There is a forum option not to view avatars in your profile, Look and Layout Preferences.

Normally even on dial-up with firefox the load times are acceptable, just these intermittent occasions when it is really slow.

Anyone else?

It doesn’t seem like heavy usage

I’ve just had a slowdown for a few minutes, sat their with my wheels spinning again, I tried a forum that I know is on the other side of the pond and that wasn’t suffering and slowdown. So it would appear to be more localised than that.

The Error you have posted I have had on a number of occasions when I have suffered these slowdowns.

Everything it back to normal again, for me that is.
