Found a way to stop program expiration

Hello,

For many programs if you download a trial and set the date and time back the program will last the days for the trial + the days you put your system clock back. And you can just keep doing this. I would like to know if avast! Pro is setup so that people cannot do this. That way people who download the trial cannot steal the software.

avast has an antipiracy feature that avoids the use the Trial for more than 60 days.
The second installation will leave just 6 days 8)

And I think this works regardless of the system date.

Hello,

As do many other programs, when you download avast! pro it comes with a trial key, this trial key is set to work for 60 days from the date of activating the trial key. Then it will disable updates in 60 days. So for example say I downloaded avast! pro and activated the trial on February 6, 2006, it would then expire April 7,2006, but say on February 6,2006 when I activated the trial I set the date to April 7, 2003 the program would still expire on April 7, 2006, so the person would get 3 years free without paying, or 60 days after I chaged the time to April 7,2003 would the trial expire?

Note: I would never do this to steal software and never have, I just used myself as an example.

No, rolling back the system clock will be detected too 8)

Hello,

Ok thank you Tech, I noticed that this rolling back the clock works with some programs, and wanted to make sure that it doesn’t work with avast!.

Yes, this is what I meant by … “regardless of the system date.” ;D
