Free Avast 2015 Problems

The latest update to the Free Avast Antivirus has several problems for me. I use Calibre which connects to various websites including https://www.goodreads.com/.

Until the last update there was no problem connecting to the goodreads servers. When I did the latest update (after not updating for several months), the next time I attempted to search for book info I could not connect to goodreads. This went on as I tried to find out why.

Finally I turned off the SecureLine VPN and the Home Network Security. It appeared to work for a few hours but then stopped working again. Now it only works when I turn off the anti-virus.

I am wondering if any others have similar problems and how to deal with them short of uninstalling Avast. I’ve been using Avast for years but having to turn off antivirus to use the programs I prefer in the way I prefer is not acceptable.

May I suggest that you try doing a repair of Avast.

When the operation finishes, Reboot the system. See if that fixes the problem.
