Avast has found a Win32:Malware-gen in my PC with Windows ME (don’t laugh, never had any problem), but is unable to move it to the chest. On some websites I read that I should do a boot scan, but in the menu I cannot active that option. Is it normal that in the Free Edition of Avast! 4.8 there is no possibility for boot scan?
This is the name op the detected malware: c:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\INSTALL\WIN_17.CAB\msmsgsin.exe
that I have tried to put in the chest several times with no success.
Can someone please help?
Boot-time scan is not available on Windows 95/98/ME.
However, I’m sure that in your case the detection is actually a false alarm. Do you have the latest VPS version? (100205-0)
If yes, we’d be interested in that file so that we can fix the problem. What language version of Windows ME is that?
Would you be able to upload the archive file (C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\INSTALL\WIN_17.CAB) on our server?
Sorry, I’m a dummie, don’t know what VPS is. Just yesterday I’ve downloaded Avast 4.8.1368.0.
My Windows ME is in Dutch.
If you tell me how to upload the file (C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\INSTALL\WIN_17.CAB) it would be possible, I think.
I’ve got only experience with PrishtinaFTP for my own website/homepage. I suppose I need to copy & paste this file into a folder or zip? And then upload to which address?
If I try to connect with my username maggy, it says:
Status: 220 Welcome on ftp.avast.com
Command USER maggy
Status: 331 This FTP server is anonymous only.
Command PASS (hidden)
Status: 503 Login with USER first
So it says “anonymous only”, but I have to login with USER first… ???
If I try to connect anonymous, it says: Status: 200 Switching to ASCII mode. Command TYPE A.
The other fields stay blank, so I can’t see any Incoming Folder.
The incoming folder from FTP, is hidden thats why you cant see anything in there. So just upload the file from windows explorer, just type the URL they gave you, and copy paste the file, and that’s all. Take care!
