Hello,
I am obliged to use the WiFi connection of my laptop to contact you to about the issue I have on my PC and Free Avast Antivirus (vers. 5.0.418).
All accesses to the net are systematically blocked without I can find the reason !
The monitor shows the message “IE cannot display this web page”. Same result with Mozilla Firefox…
If I deactivate Avast for 10 minutes to test, everything works fine and fast.
The list of web sites to block is empty.
Mails through Outlook work fine however in any situation…
Can you please help me ?
Thanks in advance !!
Pol
Don`t know if this has any effect but have you tried repair and reboot?
For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.
Thks Pondus,
I’m going to try this immediately and shall be back in a few minutes with the result…
Pol
Sorry Pondus, the situation is unchanged after the repair procedure…
Getting anxious as I need a net connection.
Pol
What antivirus did you have before installing avast?
Have you removed it?
Using ad/remove program and reboot?
Have you run the uninstall tool for that program and reboot? can be found here http://uninstallers.blogspot.com/
when did the problem start?
-
do you have firewall installed (which might be blocking net access)? check & see if there’s a problem there.
-
try disabling all avast shields (you might leave file system shield on) permanently, reboot, & try again.
-
if nothing works try a system restore or completely uninstall avast & see if the connection gets restored.
To Pondus:
Before, I had Avast 4 and I removed it through add/remove of windows control panel.
I rebooted afterwards and deleted the whole directory of Alwil and its content.
I didn’t use the removal tool because I’m afraid of the eventual loss of other applications…
Still busy with the search of a solution.

To jjava:
Firewall works fine (Filseclab) and lets me access internet when I deactivate Avast.
Disabling all avast functions was already tried and the internet access was perfect when doing so.
I try everything to avoid a system restore, you never know what will happen afterwards…
Pol
u are right…i glossed over the deactivation tried part…excuse me.
as for the firewall, is net access to the following allowed:
avastui.exe
avast.setup
avastsvc.exe
if they have been blocked/not given access to net, then you could explore that avenue.
To jjava:
Your idea was …great !!
I did harder than what you suggested, I deinstalled the Firewall, rebooted and tried again to go on internet and now it works !! ;D
This probably means a conflict between avast and filseclab.
I’ll try now to reinstall filseclab and see if the internet access can be kept open but I’m almost sure it will be.
So you were right when suspecting the blocking of avast due to -eventually- the firewall I use.
Thanks for your help !!
Pol
touch wood, dude. let’s hear from u when u have the two of 'em running in tandem.
To jjava:
After reinstalling Filseclab everything is working FINE (and fast) !!!
;D ;D ;D
Thank you so much for your help jjava !
friendly,
Pol
