Free Avast home 5.0 registration fails

Hello. I use Finnish user interface and my older Free Avast home v.4.8 version was expiring and I had to update it to v.5.0.

After installation PC was rebooted and everything went fine until I was forced to fill the registration form. First I pressed button “Register now” (translated to English from my Finnish UI). Then came an English window where I had to press “Re-register”. Then came a Finnish form which asked as obligatory informations my name and my email address and optionally some other things. I have tried several times and with several different information but when I submit the information with “Register the program”-button, it always giver an error message with text “Ole hyvä ja täytä oheinen lomake” which would be in English “Please fill up the form”. I have there all required information with an existing email address but nothing helps.

I have Vista 64bit and tried also with administrator account.

Any help please. Program informs that it will expire in two days.

I did read that document already. My on-line registration goes well up to document’s figure IV A.

After that I get an English advertisement window with text “Upgrade your protection today and save 30%” where under text “Stay with avast! Free Antivirus” I had to press “Re-register” to continue.

Then I get a form of document figure V. A. There after filling every single field and pressing “Register for free license” (I have this in Finnish), I do not get window of figure VI. A, but I always get an error message with text “Ole hyvä ja täytä oheinen lomake” which would be in English something like “Please fill up the form” no matter whatever I input.

Just a thought but problems like this happen very often if cookies are blocked. If you are blocking cookies, try allowing them for the site and then see if it works. You may have to close the site completely and reopen it to have the cookies get set properly.

I tried now with all cookies allowed, but it does not help.

Avast will expire tomorrow and I will be a week cyckling in Finnish lake area. Hopefully when I come back, I can reinstall Avast Home and get it working again.

When you do a clean reinstall would be best:

  • Download the latest version of avast, 5.0.545 http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

  • Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear5.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for both 4.8 and 5.0).

    1. Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 4.8 if previously installed and then for 5.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.

Before I read DavidR’s mail, I uninstalled already expired Avast (without mentioned aswClear5.exe), downloaded full Avast home v.5.0.594 and installed it. It installed again ok, but when I tried to register it the same story happened.

Now I have another 30 day before this version expires without registering. I can then try uninstalling with DavidR’s recommended aswClear5.exe and then try to install English user interface if that would help.

Sure, try this then, but the language, shouldn’t make any difference…

Whilst the language version is unlikely to have any real impact, you can add additional languages through the avast Settings, Language and I can give you a direct link to the English version. This would be preferable than going through Cnet, etc. http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_free.exe as you can download and save it to your hard disk for use off-line.

Personally I wouldn’t wait 30 days I would want it resolved and that may need the registry cleaning with the uninstall utility as mentioned above. This is better in that it is fresh in your memory and you can print out this topic so you can follow the order of the clean reinstall.

I’ll add +1 here to David’s post, as you better solve this now than later on…

SOLUTION FOR ME WAS that I changed language from finnish to english from avast settings by installing additional language first for the time of registration… and after registration was succesfully complited I changed language back to finnish and everything is fine again = ) thanx for language tip I read somewhere above here…

You’re welcome, thanks for the feedback, hopefully it may help Turlun.

Hello all

I am now back from my holiday travels and again at my PC.

Before coming back to this forum and reading above instructions, I uninstalled again already expired Avast Free from my PC by using simply control panel of Vista. (Did not use aswClear5.exe.)

I when installing Avast again, I didn’t use my previously downloaded version but downloaded it again from Avast home page. It appeared to be just the same version 5.0.594 as I used before. However downloading takes just a few seconds.

Then I installed it selecting English version at installation phase. As earlier, the installation was successful. Now I started Avast user interface and selected to register Avast. After filling the questionnaire I sent it and voilá - registration was successful!

As I suspected from beginning, the problem is in Finnish version (possibly also in some other non-English version also). And not in program’s Finnish interface but in Finnish registration form.

I have not tried to download additional languages and then select Finnish to be the user interface language again that “nippetee” suggested. I might do that later, but English interface is enough for me. My wife could however prefer Finnish interface.
