Hello

I tried the avast Internet Security free trial but at the end I decided to stay with the free version. Does the free version of avast carry on automatically or have I got to download it again. There is a red cross against the avast icon in the tray, and makes me wonder if it is working now.

Regards

Red cross maybe your trial is finish, definition out dated, service stopped by you… For the switch of avast! IS to Free you have to wait a guy/girl that did come across this.

Thank.

The simplest way is to do a clean install of avast free.

1)Download and save latest version http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=84297.msg685480#msg685480
2)Download and run in “safe mode” http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
3)Install step #1

Paranoid. I went into Safe Mode but could not see uninstall utility ???

Where did you save it to?

(If the avast installation was not corrupted there shouldn’t be any real need for the uninstall utility anyway.

Just uninstalling avast from windows control panel, rebooting, then installing the new version and rebooting has usually worked fine for me)

Not knowing your OS. Try (XP) control panel…click add/remove…double click “avast”…scroll to select uninstall. (Vista and Win7) control panel…uninstall…double click “avast” scroll to select. Personally I find the uninstall utility to work better. Just remember the location you downloaded it to. Vista and Win7 check the download folder. It is always better to uninstall using “safe mode”. Don’t forget to re-boot.

Hi

I uninstalled from the control panel/add remove then reinstalled and everything is working fine now. Thanks for your help.

Glad it’s now working OK for you.

Glad to help anytime.
