Free Avast ver 24 detecting MBAM Pro definition files as threats

I am currently running the Free Avast ver 24 on my laptop w/Win7 Home Premium 64bit (sp1) I-5 CPU, 6GB Ram. When I booted up from sleep mode this evening I was bombarded by maybe 100+ Avast warnings that indicated many files were being quarantined because they looked suspicious I guess. After looking in the virus chest I noticed that many of the files were definition updates for my Malwarebytes Pro version of my anti-malware software. This is a first for me ! I looked on this message board to see if there were any reports of false positives for Avast this evening, but found nothing?

Can someone please explain why this is happening and more importantly how to fix it?

Thanks in advance

Richard

The following should be of help to you:
Avast and Malwarebytes mutual Exclusions for proper program cooperation.

I am currently running the Free Avast ver 24
never heard of .... are you sure you have avast?

+1 The latest version of avast! is 8.0.1497

He’s most likely referring to vps update version which is 130924-1
The problem sounds like a detection on some of the files in Malwarebytes and mutual exclusions have always taken care of that.

 1. Ah, that’s possible.
 2. Yep.

Its all right is grasping at what it might be. But we really need some detailed information from OP on the detection before we can determine the problem/action.

@ AZKID
What scan were you running (if any) at the time of the detection/s ?

Can you give some common examples of the file names, location and malware name of the detection ?

As you said there are no other recent reports of FP detections on MBAM Pro and it is a very common companion with avast forum members. So the detailed information helps us to help you.

azkid, i think you should adjust the avast program’s settings so that it doesn’t automatically quarantine files…

i don’t know which files were quarantined… if you have a log showing which files were quarantined, can you post it, or attach it to a post?

also, you could submit the files to “avast”, if you believe that they are false-positives…

@ bob3160

Thank you so much for the link you provided. Although the instructions were for Avast 6.x , it was very similar for Avast 8.x and I was able to enter all the exclusions noted for MBAM.

To all the other responders , I made an error in the Avast version I was using. It should have read Avast ver 8.0.1497. I am sorry for the confusion. I thank you all for your replies.

This is a great support forum !

Thanks again,

Richard

My pleasure. Glad I was able to help.
