avast! stops viruses from getting into your computer period. weither it will be from downloading searching the net or using p2p (which you shouldnt be using anyway) hope this helps
Yes, it is free. Go to Start > Programs > Windows Update. It will do a check on your machine first…so don’t touch or click anything while this is going on. Then it will ask you if you want to do an Express or Custom Install of Critical Updates. If you have not done this before, you can click Express Install of Critical Updates. The SP3 is considered a Critical Update. If you are on dial-up, this will take a long time to update, and most likely there will be other updates with it. After it downloads, it will then install. After this, you need to reboot (it will tell you)…this is very important or all you work is for nothing.
We do not recommend installing Driver Updates from this site unless otherwise directed. You usually do not need to do non-critical updates either.
You should also be able to get to it from here: http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-US – best used in IE, but you need to turn ON your Security Center for MS Updates to get the automatic updates. I know you had a problem with this in the past, so check this again.
