I hope this type of Q is allowed ::slight_smile: I’m looking for advise on a really good FREE Defrag program. Did i mention the word FREE. If you use a FREE Defrag program tell me here the top 5 reasons why you use your choice of FREE Defrag program. Also tell me the top 3 things about it that you would change, if you could.

P.S. Come on guys lets not let this get out of hand and turn into an opposing program bashing site lol

Auslogic allows even scheduling and works in background.
O&O released their version 10 for free.

Puran Defrag - seems to defrag better than all other programs I’ve used in the past. Can do on demand, boot scan, schedule which drive to scan…and it’s quick. I use the free version. Their support is also quick via email.

I use Mydefrag, the latest version of the excellent JKDefrag.
Did I mention it’s free?

Avast Fans are mostly united on security products but are totally divided on Defrag Programs and some even don’t think that they need to defrag.

;D

@ Chris Thomas

I would use the term “fragmented” insted of “divided”. ;D

I like PURAN DEFRAG as well but Defraggler is good for a quick check and individual file defrag.

SHAME!
Unbelievable!
Version 10 works on Windows 7. Version 11 does not!

lucky you, V10/64 refuses to install on 7/64 as well…even in Vista compatibility mode.

Sorry about that, I have xp. I did not know you were running Windows 7. I was going to say it was for window xp only but forgot. Also, very surprised to learn that version 10 runs on windows 7. Can you do a boot time defrag on windows 7 with version 10?

I think I’ve run it yet. But, now, I’m afraid to test…

Do not do it! I think I read somewhere that people were not able to reboot windows 7 after doing a boot-time defrag with version 11. Not sure about version 10 but best to be safe.

Well, it’s time to test. I’ve made a full partition backup yesterday…

If it blackscreens you might find this post useful. See post#9
