Not that I have ever been held hostage but it is a handy option to avoid crashing the browser, etc.

It was just meant as “a matter of words”, don’t take me that directly. That windows tumble over each other,and you quickly searching to find the keys to close that particular site, or you know from the older FF versions when a script runs inside a website and runs and runs, and the browser freezes, you can quickly unblock these proverbial unwanted “shackles”. I think it is a handy tidbit.
