All have HIPS (Host Intrusion Prevention Software). And are free. There have been reports to the effect that ZoneAlarm and Comodo Firewall may cause conflicts with avast.

edit: As far as future support for your present firewall you might want to contact them. They will give you a better answer.

Hi, just because a firewall software program isn’t developed anymore does not make it useless.
If you like it then keep using it. just my opinion.

+1 It just means you will no longer be able to update. We have one user still using Comodo 3.0.14 if I remember correctly. Don’t quote me on that.

+2 . I personally used an older version of Comodo FW for a couple of years with no worries 8)
I believe ‘Asyn’ uses the same version.

If you mean 3.14 → Yep.

@ Asyn Sorry. I knew there was a “.14” somewhere. Got it now 3.14. Just one question, is it doing as good now as when it was new?
3.14 must be at least 2 to 3 years old now. I would think it would be obsolete. ???

Absolutely, else it would be gone already.

And, on my XP SP3 desktop, I use an even older version of Zone Alarm firewall (version 6.0.744.001) from before Zone Labs was bought out and the program became bloated with unnecessary junk that I do not need.

If it did not do it’s job as it should, I would not be using it.

Regardless of the brand, as long as it is a good firewall that does the proper job of protecting a computer with both inbound & outbound protection, it should be OK to use.

Sorry guys, but I treat my firewall as any other security program, keep it up to date and if development stops find another option.

+1

Another software killed…

+2 I Strongly agree with DavidR

No doubt…this “retirement” of the product by Symantec is solely economically-related. I’ve noted many, quite favorable, reviews over the past few years from users of the free PC Tools firewall. With a move like this, Symantec is essentially compelling users to either purchase their Internet Security package, or just acquire a free firewall application elsewhere. Not a good PR move, IMHO.

Hope Avast! doesn’t ever decide to “retire” its free products!

Regards to all,

I don’t think so.

Long live to the freemium model. I hope this is the key of avast! success: the most worldwide used antivirus.

They’ve also retired Threatfire as a standalone program, even though that hasn’t been updated for a long while.
