Free to Paid For Question

Alright so my computer broke down a few weeks ago, and the place I got it fixed at put Avast free trial on for a month on my computer, and I fell in love with it.

Avast is the first Anti Virus program I think I’ve myself will ever have purchased.

The problem is the free trial runs out at 3pm tomorrow, however if I put 20 dollars in my card tomorrow it won’t be ready to be used till the day after tomorrow.

I know, terrible planning. But I need some advice, what should I do. I doubt going a night without protection is a good idea.

if you register avast free then it will work for a year......and you can upgrade to payed version when you want

Well the first time it was free for a year, but then my hard drive went out and I had that replaced, and they put Avast Free on, but it only lasts a month and it runs out tomorrow at 3pm.

Thats at least what the program says.

If you go into maintenence then registration you should be able to apply for free registration online.

every year when the time is out…you just register again for a new year

So I opened up the program, went to the maintenance tab, then registration, and it asked if I wanted to pay or free.

I assume you guys meant the free one, so I did it.

But really, Im worried, now I don’t surf the internet like a crazy wave of fun, and I don’t really check any emails unless Im expecting them.

I’m worried that my computer isn’t safe to where it needs to be with just basic protection, will Avast Free still protect me from viruses and stuff if I accidently click a site that had one on it, and keep bad stuff off my computer.

the virus protection from the free version is the same…the payed version just offer some extras

if you want the extra…then buy

Dexter-the free version is great ,saved me many times!

You can also layer your security protection with other programs that are free with things like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM), which many of us use and does not conflict with Avast. It works differently than an AV, but will catch things that a normal AV does not catch. Also having a good firewall (2-way for inbound and outbound protection) is important; you can get this free or paid. Having your browser up to date with plug-in’s (see my Signature as an example) is another way to increase security. Also keeping your software in your machine up to date is very important. You can use the Secunia Software Inspector PSI to scan your machine for free and give you the direct vendor’s link to update your software if needed. So these are just a few suggestions.
