I had downloaded Avast about 4 weeks ago on a new laptop and agreed to the free trial of the pro version. Any attempt to use anything in the pro version, I am told to upgrade. What happened to my free trial? I have never recieved any type of email from Avast and will I when the supposed “free trial” ends? I have used Avast for years and have thought they were the best antivirus available.

These same elements are also in the avast free version. In the Protection section you will notice a number of elements there with a Padlock, these are paid options. Avast Pro isn’t that far different from Avast Free, so these same elements are likely to be exactly the same.
So your trial of Avast Pro is free, these other elements/components aren’t free. They are pretty much there to advertise that paid option, a bit of a hook.
Some of these elements are included in the Avast Internet Security or Avast Premier and some of those aren’t in those either.

Also there is a setting to stop other avast program related popups - AvastUI > Settings > General > Popups - uncheck the ‘Show popup offers for other Avast products.’ That said this is only available in paid versions of Avast, I don’t know if that would apply to the trial version of what is a paid version of Avast Pro.
Yes, the setting is also available in the trial versions.
