Clean install of Windows 10 Home x64 (updated to 10586.318) hanging on Avast! Free Web install. Was running latest version on Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1.
Pentium D920 on Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L (Rev 2.x) BIOS FI, 4GB RAM, ATI 5450.
Same issue. Problem is when it locks up I can’t restart without doing a restore. The installer gets right to the end then locks the system. It works flawlessly without Avast! What is happening at the end of the installation that could cause such an issue?
I should add that I’ve done tests on the Memory and HDD that came back 100%.
Which installer did it ‘fix’ with the crashing installation?
What I want to know is can I use an older installer to get the thing loaded? Now tried on 10586.420 vanilla (no other software), still freezes but I have taken a system image before the installation which I can now reload in around 15-20 minutes.
Clean install of W10, Bob. No other AV has ever been installed, except on Win 7 when Avast! worked, so it’s related to the install process. The HDD partitions were nuked, it wasn’t upgraded from Windows 7 - 'cos that’s just stupid
Tried an older installer - 11.1.2253 and the result was the same. System completely locks up at the end of the install. Has to be reset with the reset or power button. Have at least taken a system image so I can recover with all the updates in place.
I’ve opened a support ticket. Will the beta stay on the beta channel or is there a way of reverting to stable channel if the issue is resolved (without reinstallation)? It’s just the machine isn’t mine, dealing with support is way beyond the end user.
I don’t really have a Plan B if Avast! won’t install. I am not a fan of other AV. I like the features of Avast! over other products.
