Friend says I infected their computer with yahoo email virus? How do I confirm?

Friend is very very mad at me - says I infected their computer. We both use Yahoo email and chat and claims I gave them a virus?

How is my “friend” able to tell this for sure?

How do I check my computer to verify if this is true or not?

What steps should I take? I am not very internet savy.

Run a full avast scanning or a boot time scanning and check
There is also the second opinion of MBAM (www.malwarebytes.org).

Yahoo email does a virus scan of all of their traffic, but may not catch everything. How did they get the virus? Wiith the regular use of false email addresses harvested from unsuspecting users, there are often messages you get that are not from the apparent source. And if they caught a virus, it is their own fault, since they are constantly sent to users who should have their own AV protection.

I think my friend is saying that “I” am responsible for giving her computer the virus.

All I did was use the yahoo email and chat feature with them.

Funny thing is - I only signed up for a yahoo account as they suggested I do that so we could use the chat feature.

I have all of the required firewalls, anti-virus programs etc.

Apparently the problem is with using Yahoo email. Apparently it is riff with infections. And apparently Yahoo’s anti-virus protection is LOUSY.

I really don’t see how someone can blame me if they chose to use Yahoo and then told me to go there too.

I so far have found no virus and have run several scans.

I have never had a problem with the Yahoo AV, and I get a LOAD of strange messages. What type of virus message do they think you sent them? Was it really from you? If it is something like a password protected zip virus that the scanner can’t see, they should know better than to enter the password supplied and open it. But even that should be caught by their own AV.

Ok thanks for the info. However, I have googled it and there are loads and loads of posts about peeps getting infected via Yahoo email. From what I have read - this happens quite frequently. I therefore think the person at fault would be the one who told me to go there NOT me.

Also - prior poster has confirmed that yahoo av does not catch everything. But then - isn’t that true of any anti-virus? I don’t think any of them are totally 100% infallible.

Here’s a good laugh - a search of youtube finds about 100 “instructional” videos on how to hack yahoo email.

Apparently it’s enough of a hobby to people that there is a plethora of “how to” videos.

The internet is like the wild west in some regards - lots of danger even though you take all of the right precautions.

A friend is accusing me of having infected their computer via Yahoo mail and chat.

I ran spyware terminator and this is what came up

Does anybody know what this means?

netpatrol (keylogger) keyloggers invisibly moniter and record all of your computer activity. This information is then automatically emailed to an anonymous user

file c:\wexec.exe

fileC:\users\jeff\appdata\roaming\microsoft\windows\startmenu\programs\trwconferencing\uninstalltrwconferencing.lnk

Invalid startup items (invalid item)

items that are linked to non-existing file in your registry

registry hkcu\software\microsoftwindows\currentversion|runmessenger(yahoo)= (??? c:\progra yahoo messenger yahoomessenger.exe - quiet

Do you have avast? if so, is the PUP scan on?

Avast detects keyloggers like NetPatrol as Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP).
