Here are the new scan logs.
Well I got the title right. This nonsense is frustrating to try to get rid of. I am still experiencing popups from totaladperforamnce.
@ SCunni,
I suggest you wait for help from one of the qualified Malware Removal experts.
Unfortunately the person who was helping you has passed away unexpectedly.
Eddy is not on the list of Qualified Malware Removal Experts.
I’ve notified essexboy who is a qualified person.
Please be patient and wait for him to assist you.
I can be patient and I do appreciate the help I have been given.
Is it still Chrome only ?
CAUTION : This fix is only valid for this specific machine, using it on another may break your computer
Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Save this as fixlist.txt, in the same location as FRST.exe
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/73555776/FRSTfix.JPG
Run FRST and press Fix
On completion a log will be generated please post that
I have run FRST with the fixlist. I have only experienced the popups with chrome, that may be in part because I use chrome much more often than other browsers. The popups are irregular, generally once to a few times per day, though in the last few days they seem to have been more frequent. I will let you know if more popups occur. Thank you for the assist.
Here is the fixlog. I have edited it slightly to remove ip information.
If you can confirm that it is Chrome only then that would suggest that Chrome has been subverted (again)
Re-install Chrome
- If you have bookmarks, let’s save them by exporting them - Export Bookmarks
- Then I need you to go Google Sync and sign into your account
- Scroll down until you see the “Stop and Clear” button and click on the button. At the prompt click on “Ok”
- Now we need to uninstall chrome via control panel.
Note: When asked about user data or settings you must remove this also so please check the box. - Restart the computer and reinstall chrome, You can download The latest version from here - Google Chrome
- Import your bookmarks back into Chrome
- Sign back in to your Chrome browser so that your bookmarks sync with your online account.
After reinstalling Chrome as per instructions, I seem to be totaladperformance free. Essexboy, hats off and thank you for your help, it is much appreciated.
On the Google Product forum I found this set of instructions, from a user skabraham, for saving passwords .
To save (or export) BOOKMARKS and PASSWORDS:
- Go to the Start menu > Run.
- Enter one of the following directories in the text field, then press OK.
Windows XP: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data
Windows Vista: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data
- Locate and open the folder called “Default” in the directory window that opens.
- TO COPY BOOKMARKS: Copy the file named “Bookmarks”, and save it for backup.
- TO COPY PASSWORDS: Copy the file named “Login Data”, and save it for backup.
- Once you have formatted the drive or created a new profile, follow steps 1-3 and simply paste the files saved in steps 4 & 5.
- All your bookmark data and password data are back!
To create a new browser user profile if your Chrome keeps crashing follow instructions in this link: http://www.google.com/support/chrome/bin/answer.py?answer=142059
There is no need to use any decryption or export tools mentioned above - they are a waste of time and may possibly even “export” your valuable data elsewhere!
I only used the part for saving my passwords but that worked well for me.
I must admit that malware is getting very good at hiding within Chrome
Any further problems
I have not had anymore popups. Thank you.
Subject to no further problems
I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

: Keep Java Updated :
WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article
I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)
If you do need to keep Java then download JavaRa
Run the programme and select Remove Java Runtime. Uninstall all versions of Java present
Once done then run it again and select Update Java runtime > Download and install Latest version

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:
Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

click the very large Download button.
click Save
Click Open folder
Right click on the Unchecky_setup and choose to Run as Administrator
Once open click the Install button.
Then click on Finish
Unchecky is now installed and will help you keep unwanted check boxes unchecked, this is a fire and forget programme
It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.
