Full Scan Report.txt disappeared

10.4.2233 Free.
After running a Full Scan with auto shutdown, I would check the results the next day in the text file. Now, the file in the Program Files\Avast folder is no longer there. Tried creating Full Scan Report.txt in My Documents and changing the target location to that folder\file, but that did not work.

How do I get a full scan report.txt?

c:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\avast\report

10.4.2233 is a old(er) version.

Are you using and program such as CCleaner (to clear old data, etc.) ?
This if set to do so can remove avast logs.

Have you checked the Full Scan, Settings and ensure that the Report File section is set to ‘Generate report file’ ?

I have been using Avast and CCleaner for a while now and never had this problem before, but when I went into CCleaner and ‘excluded’ C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\report*.* the report is there after CCleaner runs. I just updated CCleaner very recently. Did that update change how it handles C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\report folder? Or did I select/deselect some option by mistake and hosed myself? Feel free to treat these questions rhetorically as I am only curious. Bottom line is that everything is back to normal; at least by my definition. Thanks David.

v4.00.4064 (26 Mar 2013)

  • Added cleaning for Avast Antivirus

No mentioning of any changes for avast after that.

Thanks for that info about CC updates. Can’t remember if I compensated for that or how, but I must have. I wonder if the last update somehow altered whatever I had done. Anyway, all’s well that ends well. Thanks to y’all for the solution.

End of Line.

You’re welcome.

Personally I don’t allow ccleaner to clean any avast options, as there are other areas other than the report folder logs also get hit and possibly other areas. If you have to go to the extent of excluding certain areas I would just uncheck and avast antivirus option in the Applications tab > Utility section.

I believe this is normally off by default, so it could be incorrectly selected.

Although my CCleaner looks different than your illustration, Under Application>Utilities there are 2 programs; Windows Defender and Avast. Both are checked, so I unchecked Avast. Can’t remember checking it, but I don’t remember what I had for breakfast.

What you have under Application > Utilities depends on what applications you have installed and which of those are recognized/supported by CCleaner.

CCleaner puts a checkmark in front of them by default.

What surprises me is that avast self-defense allowed the logs to be deleted.

  1. I have lots of programs in the CCleaner Utilities section that I have never installed, there are lots of stuff that is very old and no longer installed. The old versions of avast for instance. CCleaner isn’t very good in this regard, detection of installed programs and removal of entries for programs not installed or no longer installed.

  2. I don’t believe this is the case for newly added entries the avast antivirus (is relatively new) and that wasn’t checked.

  3. You can check this manually yourself the self-defence doesn’t block deletion for log files (only exception would be files in use).

If my illustration looks different, the first thing I would say is do you have the latest CCleaner version (the same as that in my image 5.11.5408) ?

I have the same ‘CCleaner Free’ version for Windows 8.1 64 bit that I downloaded about a week ago when the update popup appeared. The report was deleted by an earlier version.
The cause has got to be operator error; I just can’t feature what I did. If it happens again, I know at least 2 way of fixing it, thanks to the help I received here. Having a report history is great, but the most important report is the last one.

No problem, happy I could help.
