Using Avast Free 19.8.2393 (build 19.8.4793.537) on up to date Win10 v1903. Starting a full scan completes immediately with no results. Claims the scan is done with no issues found. No log entry. A Quick scan works and reports no issues. Don’t know when this started since I don’t do scans frequently. Restarted the PC but full scan still does nothing. The last Win10 updates were on 11/13/19.
I’m the OP. Just discovered that after the full scan says it’s done (in no time at all), there is a Scan Again button. I clicked it an a full scan started up. So the problem is with initiating a scan from the normal scan initiating place. Hmmmmm…
This has been reported a few times (if my memory is correct) in the forums already. Though it doesn’t appear to be something that effects all users, I’m running on win10 1909 and avast! free 19.8.2393 (build 19.8.4793.544) UI-1.0.415, so my build appears to be a little later than yours (you might want to do a manual program update followed by a reboot).
I have just started a full virus scan off and it is progressing normally at the moment, at just under 40%.
Hopefully this is a bug that will be squashed ni a new program update.
Update:
Well The scan has completed.
One thing I always mention, I rarely run on-demand scans outside of responses to forum topics/questions as in a resodent on-access antivirus scanner, on-demand scans are much depreciated.
I also happened to run a full scan last night, first time in a few months. The scan completed OK after 4hrs, which was according to my run time expectations, and showed progress reasonably well on the UI.
I have Win10 1909 and Avast 19.8.2393 (build 19.8.4793.544), UI 1.0.435.
In the past I had reported poor UI depiction of full scan progress and I am aware others are still having problems with scans, but that was not my experience on this occassion.
Has the OP (larrymcg) done the normal “Repair Avast” cure-all proceedure to see if that improves anything?
This has been an ongoing intermittent problem for me since the original problem occurred in June.
I have assumed that the latest “iteration” where you just click on scan again was the improvement made by Avast over the original but not obvious work around of clicking on the Done button and then rerunning the scan.
@Larry,
Good to hear you got the scan to run. @DavidR,
Yes, I also hope the devs fix this bug as has been around now for some time.
Also agree with your comment that on-demand scans are probably now used less with more reliance on the shields for real-time protection, after doing a full scan to assure a clean start.
This is a somewhat different ‘bug’ as the scan runs but then appears to stall/stop. Hopefully the OP will generate the Support package and that it will contain information helpful to the devs.
