Full system scan finds an alarmingly large amount of files "unable to scan"- 25k

Hello

I ran a full system scan and it resulted in many, many files “unable to scan” (25,051). What alarms me is that when I ran the full system scan a few months ago, it resulted in far fewer files “unable to scan”. In November it was 463, now it’s over 25,000.

I understand that some files are password protected- but the huge increase seems worrisome, and I certainly haven’t password protected that many files. It says no files are infected however.

Also, maybe it’s because it’s the free version, but I don’t see a list of the files “unable to scan” anywhere- I can’t see their names.

Any help is appreciated!

Thank you

How do I handle files that avast! can’t scan? https://blog.avast.com/2014/02/28/how-do-i-handle-files-that-avast-cant-scan/

if you tell us the location of the files …full file path … we may be able to tell you what they are

At the bottom of the scan section is a link > Scan history click that
Select the scan you are interested in and then click detailed report

questions about files that cant be scanned is the most frequently asked in the forum, so lots of info if you forum search … especially in older topics

many programs password protect there files, usually security programs but also others like adobe…

if you run CCleaner i guess many of those files will be gone…

Thanks

I don’t have a scan history in my version. It’s Avast Mac Security 2015. So I can’t find the file paths.

My question is, doesn’t it seem odd that “unable to scan files” went from 463 for 3 straight months to over 25,000?

maybe not .... deepends what they are. in PC they are often located in a temp/cache folder and many are gone after a cleanup
