I dug up my old Windows Vista laptop yesterday and installed “avast!” on it to get it checked out. I started a full system scan on the Windows Vista laptop yesterday at around 8 PM and left alone. Now when I check my laptop screen, expecting the scan to be long done, it’s still at 0%! It has made no progress with the scan in 5 hours. There is absolutely nothing else running in the background. Why is it going so slow?
And right as I post this, the scan goes from 0% to 70% and then finished within the next minute. I’m still wondering why it took so long.
First time scans are always slower because the cache hasn’t been built but mostly it would depend on how much information is stored on the hard drive and the systems cpu speed.
Oh, I get it… Now, I finished the Full System scan and it asked me to do a Boot Time scan. I went ahead and did that, waited, and then it told me that an infection was found. It gave my a few choices of what to do with it (1: Fix automatically, 2: Fix all automatically, etc.) but then my computer freezes and I can’t do anything. I’ve tried doing multiple Boot Time scans but each time I do it, the same thing happens and I must force restart my computer. What do I do?
I’d suggest not running another Boot Scan as there seems to be an issue or two with it.
What did avast! say was the exact detection?
Instead, go here: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
Download and run scans with the first three programs. Attach the resulting logs in your next reply. A certified malware expert will be contacted for you once the logs are attached.
Suggested as a workaround to help fix your issues.
Did you remove your old AV according to vendors instruction before installing avast ?
