It rather depends on A) the scan settings that you used, B) the system spec OS, CPU and RAM, C) the amount of data to be scanned and we have none of that information.
Seeing that one of the files being scanned in the image is an mp3 file, I don’t recall if mp3 files are scanned in a default Full System Scan. We don’t know if you chose to scan ALL files or the default selection or if you chose to scan archives or scan for PUPs. All of these would be likely to increase scan the duration.
I also see in your image that so far avast has scanned 113.4GB of data, which in itself is quite a lot, so what is the total amount of data on the system ?
Remember archive files are reported in windows by the archive compressed file size, but the avast scan extracts files from the archive (if you chose to scan archives). This would give a total greater than that reported by windows explorer.
Was there a particular reason to choose a Full System Scan ?
I just thought id do a full scan for a change instead of it just sitting on my pc waiting for something to pop up to get its attention…
You didn’t answer the other questions (or subtly hints I dropped) which may account for the duration of the scan.
- With a resident on-access antivirus like avast, the need for frequent (or deep) on-demand scans is much depreciated. For the most part the on-demand scan is going to be scanning files that would be otherwise be dormant or inert. If they were active files then the on-access file system shield would be scanning them before being created, modified, opened or executed.
I have avast set to do a scheduled weekly Quick scan (more out of old habit), set at a time and day that I know the computer will be on. If for some reason my system wasn’t on, no big deal I will catch up on the next scheduled scan.
Lucky I did it coz it found something … win32 malware-gen so its now doing a bootscan
Still haven’t answered David’s questions.
Nor has he provided any information on the detection, file name and location, etc.
There really is little point in seeking help if you aren’t going to provide the information requested, it is a two way street. Without information we are blind and unable to help.
Sorry but I dont know what im doing when it comes to viruses and getting them removed so im just going by what hits the screen.
If you don’t know how to give the information needed,no problem, just ask.You never know you may learn something.
