Full Virus Scan Not Working

My PC became very slow this morning and I was worried about a virus as Avast said it could not connect. I restarted my PC and now when I hover over the Avast logo it says I’m up to date, it finally did a smart scan which says I’m protected and I seem to have current version of 170422-0 and I did the EICAR test which it blocked so no malware stopping the virus scanner. However when I try and do a full virus scan it just stays at 0%? Help, sorry I’m not computer literate, so any ideas?

As has been told in many other threads already, there is a problem with showing the scan progress.

Nothing to be sorry about. You aren’t expected to live on this forum an realize everything that’s on this forum.
The search function on this forum also leaves a lot to be desired.

I left it on all night and this morning it was still at 0%. I dont think its a problem with scan results ‘not showing’ because if it was just a GUI problem, surely after 8 hours the scan would be done?
