Full Virus Scan not working

I just installed last night and tried a full virus scan. It stayed at 0% from 10 pm to 339 am and my computer appeared frozen so I restarted. The boot time scan then got stuck at 5% for an hour (and skipped my Skype we plug in as corrupted) so I quit the boot time scan. I then uninstalled all Skype plug ins, did the repair on the avast and restarted my computer. When I booted back up I tried to run the full virus scan again and it’s once again stuck on 0%.
