General question regarding software updates...

Hello - We purchased about a dozen licenses to be managed with ADNM about a year ago when the program was still 4.7. I know 4.8 has been out for quite some time. Do we need to upgrade the client workstations? After being infected with a rootkit, I am especially concerned with the rootkit feature offered in 4.8

Please advise.

Regards,

Nick

Well, “need”… it’s always recommended to update to new versions; they generally offer better protection.
In case of avast! 4.8, it’s the rootkit scans, self-defense, and improved protection against false alarms, for example. Also, the unpacking engine has been improved, so it may have better detection of malicious code hidden in packed/crypted executables.

Thanks for the advice igor

Downloading the updates right now.

Also, remember to update your ADNM console as well. On the server that is running it, go to your control panel, and open the Add / Remove Programs Applet.

Find Avast Management tools, and click, Change/Remove.

Then, Click the “Update” icon and click check for updates.

To my knowledge (and someone please correct me if I’m wrong) but this is the only way that I know of to update the ADNM console, and it doesn’t update by itself. So, you’ll have to check for updates periodically.

Probably by installing the latest console over the otherone as well…

Maybe it was just me [or it’s normal], but I don’t remember our Avast server offering the 4.8 client until the console went to 4.8.
