General turnaround time for files submitted to Avast! for analysis?

Hello. Newbie here to this forum with what is probably a stupid question. :wink:

What is the general turnaround time for files that are submitted to Avast! for analysis via the Virus Chest? I ask because I submitted one nearly two weeks ago, and although I included an email address, I haven’t heard anything back, nor has the file I submitted had a change in detection (Avast! isn’t finding any detections in it).

The reason I submitted it in the first place is because I just recently heard of VirusTotal and Jotti. On a whim, I uploaded all of my WinAmp plugin files to there to be on the safe side (Avast!, Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware, and SUPERAntiSpyware have never detected anything malicious in any of them), since I learned that plugins and codecs for sound players can be a source of malware. All but one of them got a clean bill of health by both sites, but the one in question received 13/42 detections on VirusTotal and 4/20 on Jotti. Which makes me go hmmmm… Granted, they were mainly heuristics detections on the scanners that picked up on them (none of which included Avast!), but I’m still iffy about it.

So yeah. Do I need to resubmit the file, perhaps through a regular email to Avast!, or do I need to wait longer to get a response?

Thanks so much in advance.

EDITED TO ADD: One other dumb question: Is my email address visible on my profile to those who are logged in? =/ I have selected the option to hide it from the public, but it isn’t clear to me as to whether that includes logged in members. Again, thanks so much. XD;

Hi Karmic,

Welcome to the forum,

You may sent your request and issues to : support@avast.com

Then ALWIL team will get back to you soon.

cheers,

Karmic, they usually do not answer or make questions, unless needed. But, of course, they should add detection quickly.
I’m waiting for some answers too. http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=57773.0

@Yanto.Chiang: Thanks! =) Normally, I would want to give them enough time to get to mine before poking them about it directly, but I wasn’t sure whether the file was received or if they had, in fact, tried to contact me and I never got their email for some reason. From what Tech said, it sounds like they’re pretty swamped, so I’ll probably give them another week before I contact them directly.

@Tech: Yikes, 36 out of 42 ain’t good, that’s for sure. =( Obviously, the ones you found are much higher priority than mine (which may well be a heuristics false positive on those other scanners), and if it’s been several days already, the developers might just be swamped. I hope they get to yours soon, though.

I read somewhere in this forum that if you submit a file for analysis via email, you’re supposed to get an auto-reply that says it was received. Although I included my email address when I uploaded the file from the Virus Chest, I didn’t receive any auto-reply emails from Avast!, nor did anything from them show up in my spam-trap, which was why I was wondering about this. It may well be that they’ve already gotten to mine but found no reason for concern. But what you said is very good to know for future reference, thanks so much! =)
