Genetic-Heuristik

One avast! become still more inovativer? … That ask myself I straight, the Panda e.g. has the technology of the TruPrevent and want also Genetic heuristic shortly to introduce. How will Alwil react to it? Will Alwil also offer sowas something similar? me times would interest.Genetic heuristic, like already tested recognized unknown mark commodity, without signatures update, etc… (lay with run 70%), so similarly as the Advance heuristic with Nod32 Faith

I would like to see avast! with better heuristik functionality as well…

At the latest “pro-active” tests at http://www.av-comparatives.org/ they were standard…

This was discussed a lot and a lot of times…
Maybe the merchandising of ‘Heuristics’ is in the wild too… They speak too much, I mean, promisse too much… more even the reality.
Speak with a virus maker ;D

Oh, there are the false positives issue too… :stuck_out_tongue:

Now thats a royal piece of code… NOD32 is doing a very good job with this… Other a/v’s are more of the false alarm…
I hope the heuristic technology gets a higher priority in the feature-list of avast!

Well Heuristics are certainly on the agenda with avast as it is used in the Internet Mail provider where a false positive is not so serious problem, at the worst you lose and incoming email. You can always ask them to send it again.

Once you move heuristics to the main on-access or on-demand scanners, false positives can have serious consequences for your system if a system is falsely identified as a virus. If you chose to delete rather than move to chest, you may be unable to boot your computer.

If you can’t get into your computer, it is somewhat difficult to find the source of the problem. If you haven’t got a back-up/recovery strategy (image back-up, etc.), it is going to test your mental strength.

The one thing I would recommend for any AV using Heuristics is to identify any suspect virus as a ‘Possible Infection Detected using Heuristics.’ This hopefully will prompt the user to investigate this rather than press the Nuclear Option ‘Delete,’ move it to the chest and investigate.
