Getting malware blocks/alerts about every 10 webpages....

Trusted sites I use everyday (Wunderground, NWS, even New York Times) are triggering malware alerts on a regular basis for me…for about the last 24 hours.

Anyone else experiencing this? I’m assuming it’s a result of my last virus update…that’s the only thing I can think of.

Rather annoying to say the least. Just checking to see if it’s an isolated incident with me, or curious if others are seeing it as well.

I suggest:

  1. Clean your temporary files, including browsers caches, etc.
  2. Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on. If avast does not detect it, you can try DrWeb CureIT! instead.
  3. Use MBAM (or SUPERantispyware or even Spyware Terminator) to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, it is better and safer to send the infected file(s) to quarantine (Chest), rather than simply deleting them.
  4. Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.
  5. Make a HijackThis log to post here or this analysis site. Or even submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.
  6. Clean your Hosts file (replacing it) with HostsMan tool.
  7. Disable System Restore and then reenable it again.
  8. Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster.
  9. Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector.

Before such excercise, I would strongly suggest to check whether you have definitions version at least 110321-2

I ‘did’ check to see that I had the latest update, and, at the time, I did.

Today, however, the alerts have stopped. Probably got a later update while I was sleeping.
All seems to be well, at the moment. No alerts so far today. (It ‘did’ have to do with advertisements…even on IMDB.com, a site I use everyday. Not happening now)

Thanks all!
