Getting ready to switch from AVG 8.0 Pro to Avast pro–does this require a restart after daily scanning or updates?
i need to run on a digital video surveillance server, and with AVG 7.5, no restart was required, and worked great!. but the AVG 8.0 is really bad.

Restarts are not usually required after a definition update. Very rarely you will be prompted to restart if a “compulsory” program update was installed at the same time.
Re after scans, I’ve never been prompted to restart but I think it would depend on what was detected during the scan.
Note: A restart is required after initial installation but you probably already knew that.
