ghosted status, last scan results, and scan reports options

Newb question. When I go to the menu in the user interface (simple), the options for status information, last scan results, and scan report are all unavailable (ghosted). I do have the option for avast to create a report file selected. Does anyone know why these options aren’t available? Can you not use them during the 60 day trial until you buy it?

Also, in terms of a sales question. Is there any option when purchasing for avast to send you a back up product CD? I didn’t see one there. Under “shipment” it just says license key.

The options are available only if you ran a scan since you started the program (Simple User Interface) - i.e. it doesn’t remember the past sessions.

I don’t think so. You can download the program again any time you want - and probably a newer version at that time.

The scan results are only available directly after a scan whilst the Simple User Interface is still open. The scan results aren’t saved in the Home version.

The full functionality and more is available in the Pro version from the Enhanced User Interface.

I’m not sure if the creation of the report file covers the on-demand scan (guess what I’ve never used it in two and a half years), but if you have created it then you can open that with a text editor, notepad, etc.

I have the pro version, it’s just in its trial status right now. When I purchase it, will it become available?

Also, where in the advanced user interface are these options available? I don’t seem to see anything relevant. I thought “sessions” might be it, but its blank.

In the same menu that you see the Ghosted scan report options you should also see an entry for Enhanced User Interface, see image.

Sorry I can’t offer further advise on the EUI as I’m an avast Home user.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I am using the enhanced user interface already. I just couldnnt see the options for checking the status, last scan results, and scan report via the enhanced interface.

Thanks for the help, though.

When you run a task in the Enhanced User Interface, the results will be associated with the particular session. According to the task settings (“Results” page - “Store results in internal database for later processing”), you can access the results at any later time (until you delete the session, of course).

Ok, got it.

Question, though. Why are those three options there in the simple user interface if you can never use them? I think I’m missing something…

You can use them:

  1. Start Simple User Interface
  2. Run a scan
  3. Now, you can use them
  4. Run another scan
  5. Now, you can use it again
  6. Close Simple User Interface - the information is “gone” now, i.e. these options work only within one Simple User Interface session.

There are 2 additional conditions though: for the “View scan reports” option to be available, you have to have the creation of the report file enabled. For the “Last scan results” option to be available, the previous scan must have had some results actually (such as some infected files found).

aaah. Ok. thank you very much for clarifying that for me!
