globe not spinning

The globe in the lower right corner near the clock isn’t spinning when I open websites like it used to. This has happened before but after a restart it would work again.
I’ve restarted, ran a scan, updated to the newer 4.7 version, restarted and ran another scan and nothing works. When I open the on access scanner and click on the different providers it says they are running. I also have the animation turned on so that’s not the problem.
Thanks.

Do you use a proxy to connect to the internet ?

Has anything changed before this happened, updates, new software, etc. ?

What is probably more important are the sites being scanned (check the detailed view of the web shield, Last scanned: and Scanned count: should change) ?

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.

Sorry, I’m not very computer literate, not sure what a proxy is. I connect using IE if that’s what you mean. Haven’t added any programs or did any updates lately. Last time I did an update it wiped out my CD drive and I had to do a system restore so I’m a little leary of that.
When I open the on access scanner it shows the last website I was on and says all the protections are running so I guess it’s working but I like to be able to see it because it has stopped before, though only once.
I did the repair you suggested. It only took a few seconds and said “updated” but that didn’t do anything.
Thanks

You don’t so much need to know what a proxy is, but if your ISP used one you would be aware of it, so it is unlikely that you do use a proxy.

No I didn’t mean ‘you connect using IE’ if you had to connect using a proxy, you would have to set your browser up to use one (see image).

Although I don’t think you should need to did you reboot after the repair ?
If not try it, if so uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.
It would probably be best to first Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Reinstall fixed it, now I know I’m being protected! BTW since I switched from Norton to Avast a few years ago I have never had a virus. From reading this board I can’t believe how many people complain about a free program. Geez, I could see complaining about something you pay for but its free.
Thanks again

Some will complain about anything ;D

Welcome to the forums.

You can complain about avast even it’s free.
This is how we get a better product all the time: we complain, they improve 8)
