Going crazy

I am not a sophisticated user and have installed Avast! and keep getting messages while I am on-line that appear at the bottom of my screen and stay for a few seconds telling me that a trojan has been found in something … the messages tell me that the download has been blocked but it is driving me crazy. How do I turn off these notifications? If I can’t I will have to go back to Norton for sanity purposes

The message is telling you that your security is compromised and that the program is blocking malware from being passed to your machine, I’m guessing because a Trojan downloader is trying to download more malware, although without details that’s just a guess. I suggest you look for and remove this security compromise, then the message will stop.Switching to another AV will still leave you with the underlying problem.

You need to run a boot time scan with avast! (Right click on the scanner screen and tick schedule a boot time scan.)

Also ensure your system is up to date and that you have a firewall running.

I’m guessing here that this is the Web Shield at work and you have been tweaking your avast settings and switched on the ‘Show detailed info on performed action’ ?
I’m guessing your comment “the download has been blocked but it is driving me crazy” is the Web Shield ‘Abort Connection.’ However, you should also have had an accompanying pop-up alert, unless you have tweaked that setting too, please give more info or confirm my guess ?

It won’t hurt to do as Frank suggests but I’m hoping this is inbound traffic stopped by avast’s web shield.

See image, ensure this is unchecked, if you continue to get it you may have adjusted other providers so you would need to do the same for each provider changed.
