Going from unmanaged Pro to managed Endpoint

Greetings, I was wondering if anyone could help me here with a little something :).

We’re changing our security solution from Avast Pro to Avast Endpoint Protection Suite. Previously, all our clients were manually installed and managed, being hired to help bring the organisation well and truly up to date, I proceeded with installing and configuring The Avast Enterprise Administration Server, so that the IT department has a nice and centralised way to manage the client protection software.
After some minor hiccups, I got everything running smoothly, created and installation package, imported the client machines from AD,…
When I try to deploy the package to a client that already has Pro installed however, the setup simply stops doing anything when at 60% and then times out. This is clearly visible from the installation log file:

Additionally, the process seems to be unable to delete the copied files, which in turn also provides a problem when a re-installation is attempted afterwards, the process simply stating that “the file already exists” and then terminates, leaving both files and the remote installation service behind on the client. Only after a computer restart I’m able to remove the installation files folder (on C:) and the service (through the registry).

Isn’t there a way for the EAS-initiated process to detect and uninstall any previous Avast versions? Security management servers from other brands usually don’t only offer this option, they offer the option to remove previous installations from other brands as well, this seems like a bit of an oversight in the management software’s capabilities. Related, I haven’t found a way to uninstall software from an already managed client either, another highly useful feature.

I would hate to tell my colleagues that we’re going to have to go visit all 400+ clients to perform the uninstallation manually.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same issue as you. Have you had any luck on finding a solution?

Hi there, “unfortunately”, I have found that there is no way to do this, the Avast Pro installation isn’t supported at all by the management server, as such, there is no way to do this that way. We opted to go about it the manual way (glad I didn’t have to take that road myself), another option would be for you to write an uninstall script for Avast Pro, but as I said, we didn’t end up taking that road.
The best of luc!
